Heading toward the final scenes of The Force Awakens, Han, Chewy and Finn have made it onto the Star Killer Base. Bundled against the blowing snow, they approach the oscillator building.
Although Finn has lead them to the Star Killer Base under the pretense that he has special technical expertise of how to destroy it, he really doesn’t even know how to get in the building. Caught up in the excitement, he throws out,
“We’ll use The Force.” Like its a sorcerer’s conjuring or an extra large blaster. Fans watching the movie have just enough time to think before Han says it for us all,
“THAT’S not how The Force works!”
Chewy of course adds a remark, but it’s not about The Force. Han explains,
“Oh really, you’re cold?”
Perhaps they are not really the intense warriors you would hope come to your rescue. Although you would want Han and Chewy on your side in a street fight, maybe not so much against an organized army. Finn is pretty much disposed to act more on emotion and less tactical capability. His heart and his intention though are guiding him in the right direction.
The Force isn’t a witch’s incantation or a magic trick. The Force is the resources and energy that surround us all. There’s a natural capability to some to be able to use it more tangibly and physically, but it’s there for everyone. The power begins with recognizing the forces you can control. The negative energy your coworkers or boss can throw out only increases if you give it value. The traffic, the long line, the less-than-helpful customer service – only bother you if you let them. You have a great deal of resources already at your command. Inventory your blessings and resources. Recognize what you can do for the universe.
That’s how YOU use The Force.
