Girl Knows Her Stuff
“Girl knows her stuff.”
Han reports as he and Chewy watch the previously impenetrable hatch slide open. They quietly push forth to strategically place ordnance in the vulnerable innards of the oscillator – a last measure to prevent The Weapon from firing upon the Resistance home base.
It has been up to Ray to open that hatch, and this is another instance in a sequence showing Ray’s electro-mechanical expertise. She digs into a dark cabinet of switches and fuses and pulls the right one.
The chances of them finding the right place to pull the right part was infinitesimally small, and the more so in consideration with two minutes left at this point. Ray’s technical capability though is the result of years of hard work. Repelling the hulls of crashed Empire ships, she has spent her lifetime learning all the connections, all the gangways, the guts, the bones, the sinews of spacecraft. Her life survived from that action daily.
Nothing we do is wasted. Perhaps you hate the job you do today but it’s teaching you something. You may or may not know what that is now. Perhaps it’s the boss or the coworker that grinds on you. Perhaps like Rae, the seemingly insignificant tasks will someday support you. If you use that experience to grow, even if it’s gaining endurance from the strain, you are not wasting.
Ray wondered if scavenging were her entire life – searching for parts to get quarter portions. She looked to the skies for hope – a family that would rescue her. They would not.
Ray had to leave the planet where she so desperately wanted her family find her. She had to use all the skills she had to save herself and others.
If you are not living the life you want, Who You Are Supposed To Be is still out there. It may not be today, or tomorrow, but it is out there.
