What the Resistance Looks Like
“I’ve never met someone from the resistance.” Rae speaks with a rare girlish awe.
Finn strikes a pose and puffing out his chest declares, “I’m with the Resistance alright. This is what we look like.”
Ah yes, what does being with the Resistance look like? There doesn’t seem to be a given uniform. Poe wears a leather jacket reminiscent of the quintessential leather aviator jackets. That means he is an aviator, not so much a Resistance element. (Et tu, Han Solo?) General Leia’s outfits are definitely more military style, but they are far from a uniform. Do clothes make the man or woman?
What does being a part of a group look like? What does being a part of a rebellion look like?
We all wear signs of Who We Are. I’ve heard it said that your house tells people about the kind of person you are; your car tells people whom you want them to think you are. Finn is definitely using the Resistance as a means to his own end, but perhaps is it really who he is and not just who he wants her to think?
Finn is using “looking like the Resistance” to escape the First Order. He also likes the way Rae looks at him when he says he’s with the Resistance.
What group(s) are you a part of now? What is the uniform? Are you participating in in order to look good? Perhaps you should make sure you are doing Who You Are instead, and fight the good fight. Rae would never admire anyone but the genuine thing.
